The past decade has seen the injectable device segment of the drug delivery sector undergo two major evolutionary trends. The first, driven by regulatory changes aimed at protecting the wellbeing of healthcare workers, was the appearance of safety syringes. The second, propelled by the availability of powerful biological drugs manufactured by complex and capital-intensive recombinant technology, highlighted the need for prefilled devices that were more economical (eliminating the need for overfilling vials) and relatively safe (the syringe holds the correct dosage, reducing the risk of overdose).
